The term exotic wood comprises many kinds of wood imported from Asia, Africa and South America. The use of a specific kind depends on the requirements of the project, but also on its current availability. The most commonly used kinds are sapeli, iroko and tauari. These kinds are characterized by high dimensional stability and higher durability than domestic kinds of softwood, but also several times higher prices. Appropriate oils are used for the preservation of exotic wood that prevent adverse changes in wood. Oil maintenance should be repeated periodically to maintain the beautiful aesthetics of wood and whole products.
